Icom IC-271H Deaf Front End Fix.

Remove 10x screws to remove the top cover. Locate Q7 (3SK48) & R18 (100 ohm) on the RF-YGR Board. Carefully unplug J9 & J10 on main board, J1, J3 & J4 on RF-YGR board. remove 4x screws then remove RF-YGR board.

Remove Q7 & R18, NOTE! Q7 is also soldered on it's case to L18.

Note the 3SK48 and the BF988 both have the same pin-outs. PLEASE NOTE!! THE PRINTING ON THE FET IS AGAINST THE BOARD and note in the photo below the correct layout of the FET. Also make sure you get the FET as close as possible to the board so when the board is rescrewed back down, it is not hitting against the chassis.

Frist replace R18 from a 100 ohm to a 47 ohm resistor so there is not too much heat on the board for when you install the FET.

Replace Q7 from a 3SK48 to a BF988, NOTE! The BF988 is a DUAL GATE MOSFET and all care must be taken when installing the BF988, Use an anti-static mat connected to earth and do NOT use too much heat from the soldering iron and be quick with the heat.

Reinstall the RF-YGR board and the 4x screws, reinstall all connectors, install case and all 10x screws.

After this mod... I now receive the Waikato NZ, repeater 140km's a way at aprox S9 with no noise through a 5 element yagi (before the mod... S2 and very scratchy)
